Prices of packaging papers remain stable, pulp prices creep up



August 31, 2007 - Pulp Index on August Pulp & Paper Price Indices rises 1.07% above July 2007, gains 6.79% compared to August 2006. Indicator also shows rapid implementation of $20/tonne price hikes for eucalyptus, northern, southern bleached hardwood grades, as well as delayed effect of July’s $20/tonne increase for NBSK, southern pine. Packaging Papers Index remains same for third consecutive month in August 2007, but sits 1.07% higher than August 2006, is up only 0.36% for 2007 year-to-date. Monthly report from information, technology company, Forestweb Inc., Los Angeles, CA, says containerboard price increase failed to take effect during seasonally slow month; prices remain unchanged for all packaging board grades except some solid bleached sulfate cupstock.
