Alcan buys pharmaceutical packaging facility in India



October 14, 2008 - Alcan Global Pharmaceutical Packaging, division Alcan Packaging, Paris, France, expands flexible packaging capacity in India with purchase of Chakan, Pune, India, from Associated Capsules Private Ltd., Mumbai, India. Chakan broadens Alcan Packaging’s geographic footprint, strengthens its presence in world’s 14th largest pharmaceutical market. “The acquisition of this facility advances our leadership position in pharmaceutical flexibles through growth in emerging markets,” says Ilene Gordon, president/ceo, Alcan Packaging, which is a business unit of Rio Tinto Alcan, Montreal, QC, Canada. Chakan brings Alcan US$3.6 million in annual sales, 2,600-square-metre facility, 100 employees, expertise with local pharmaceutical companies.
