PACK EXPO preview: Delta robot loads pouches into cases

October 14, 2008 - Edson Packaging Machinery Ltd., Hamilton, ON, Canada, adds delta robot case packer to line of gantry-style robotic case packers. New RPd 270 machine to debut at PACK EXPO International, 9-13 November 2008 at McCormick Place, Chicago, IL, features compact, modular, two-axis delta mechatronic design. Purpose-built robotic, automation, servo systems from ELAU Inc., Schaumburg, IL, work with Edson’s advanced vacuum/gripper systems, electrical system from packaging technology and solutions center at ELAU’s parent Schneider Electric SA, Rueil-Malmaison, France. Software controls arm acceleration to reliably move awkwardly shaped stand-up pouches, bags, other flexible packages at high speeds. Smoother operation also results in gentler product handling, longer life for lightweight carbon fiber composite arm. Another ELAU software object, robotic transformation, simplifies programming by automatically converting parameters that would apply to conventional servo-driven machine to kinematic algorithms robots need to synchronize axes. Easy to sanitize, clean, flexible RPd 270 case packer is fully enclosed for clean room operation.
