Vertically integrated Smithfield Foods, Smithfield, VA, begins labeling most of its fresh pork products as born, raised, processed in USA. Label change for US retail products meets requirements of country-of-origin labeling regulation taking effect 30 September 2008. Pork processor works with suppliers to implement documentation system to ensure all hogs purchased after 1 April 2009 are born, raised domestically.
