New Vacuum Packing Bagger System - Wolf VPP350 KVM Cuts Costs & Improves Quality

Technik Packaging Machinery announced a new machine system combining a vertical form-fill-seal flat bottom bagger and vacuum packing. The model VPP350 KVM built by Wolf Packaging Machines of Lich-Birklar, Germany offers a new cost effective way for automated vacuum packing of food products.

The vertical FFS machine receives product from a standard multihead weigher or cupfeeder and forms a flat bottom/gable top bag from preprinted laminated film. In this special application the top seal is only partially closed. This filled bag moves horizontally via a pocket conveyor into a station where a vacuum is pulled from the open area of the top seal. As the desired vacuum level is reached, a final top seal is made to make the bag gas tight. The finished bag is then discharged to a take away conveyor. The system utilizes a vibrated shaping box to settle the product and hold the bag in place for an accurate gusset fold. The shape and appearance of the bag are further enhanced with a re-gusseting operation before the vacuum station.

This concept is more productive than previously available equipment. Extracting the air from a product filled bag takes time. By performing this step at a station separate from the filling point, bag filling and air evacuation are taking place simultaneously.

Technik Packaging Machinery has supplied one major contract packager the Wolf VPP350 KVM to automate its pet food packaging. The application called for a laminated film of 7mil thickness. Compared with the previously used hand packing the new equipment provided a cost reduction by using film from roll stock versus pre-made bags and a higher production rate due to the machine's automation. Eliminating the re-work from rejected leakers drastically improved the efficiency. The Wolf VPP350 KVM provides rates of 8 bags per minute for 8# bags and 12 bags per minute for 4# bags in this high vacuum application even with this thick film. Quality and consistency of shape and vacuum level are considerably higher.
