PMMI OPENS NOMINATIONS FOR PACKAGING HALL OF FAME™
Inductees will be recognized at PACK EXPO International


Arlington, Va.; August 11, 2008—PMMI has issued a call for nominations for the Packaging Hall of Fame™. Presented annually since 1971, the honor recognizes individual packaging professionals' significant, long-term contributions to the packaging industry.

“Induction into the Packaging Hall of Fame recognizes truly remarkable packaging professionals, individuals who have made significant contributions to the practice and understanding of packaging’s role in our society,” said Ben Miyares, vice president, Industry Relations, PMMI. PMMI coordinates the honor.

To be considered for induction into the Packaging Hall of Fame, nominees must be shown to meet the following criteria:

  • Personally advanced the science, technology and/or practice of packaging. (Please cite examples such as scientific inquiries, technologies advanced, products developed and patents earned.)
  • Expanded packaging knowledge and the understanding of packaging. (Please cite examples of the significant roles the nominee has played in packaging education and research, such as packaging courses taught and articles/publications to his or her credit.)
  • Demonstrated remarkable volunteer leadership within the packaging community. (Please cite the nominee’s organizations and achievements within them.)

Any industry professional may nominate a candidate; nominations may be made posthumously.

The Packaging Hall of Fame Commission, a group formed by PMMI and representing various sectors of the packaging community, will select inductees from among those nominated. The following packaging industry professionals are serving on the 2008 panel.

2008 inductees for the Packaging Hall of Fame will be recognized at a fund-raising awards reception during PACK EXPO International (McCormick Place, Chicago, Nov. 9–13). The reception is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 11, at the Hyatt McCormick hotel.

Nominations will be accepted on or before Friday, Sept. 5, 2008.

E-mail nominations to Ben Miyares (bmiyares@pmmi.org), describing your nominee’s qualifications in 1,500 words or less. Please include a recent high resolution photograph (preferably color).
