MEXICO CONTINUES TO ATTRACT CONSUMER GOODS COMPANIES
Market Growth, Continued Potential Attracts Packaging and Processing Companies

With 150 million potential customers Mexico and Central America are attracting the leading consumer goods companies and their products.

According to PMMI research, Central America has seen a dramatic increase in the demand for processed food and beverages, pharmaceuticals, automotive parts, shoes, leather products and textiles. The Mexican pharmaceutical market alone has grown an average of 7 percent over the last 3 years.

To support the growth in packaged goods demand, Mexico imported more than $510 million in packaging machinery and parts in 2007, making the country the seventh largest importer of packaging equipment in the world.

In addition, the Mexican food processing industry grew 4 percent during 2007, investing $162 million dollars to update technology and keep up with the increasing demands of the marketplace.

“Global and local consumer goods companies continue to grow and invest to serve the growing Central American marketplace,” notes José Martinez, Director of PMMI’s Latin America Office. “This market penetration is fully supported by innovative packaging and processing suppliers who are sending their innovative solutions to Mexico, and will be exhibiting these services and products at the largest packaging and processing event in Latin America, EXPO PACK México / PROCESA 2008.”

EXPO PACK México and PROCESA will be held June 24-27, 2008 at Centro Banamex in Mexico City. The shows are expecting 32,000 packaging professionals from every market sector including food processing, beverages, pharmaceuticals, graphic arts, cosmetics, health care, electronics, and automotive.

“EXPO PACK México and PROCESA will serve as the crossroads for end users to find innovative solutions for both packaging and processing issues they are facing,” adds Martinez. “In addition, leading trade associations and organizations are collaborating with PMMI and EXPO PACK México to fully support the diverse and growing needs of Latin American buyers.”

EXPO PACK México / PROCESA will also feature leading financing experts from Northstar Financial and Santander Bank within the Financing Pavilion. In addition, the AMEE (Mexican Packaging Association) Congress, The AMEE Envases Estelares Awards and a full conference program for both packaging and processing education will take place in conjunction with the show.

“There will be more than 800 packaging and processing exhibits, making the combined shows extremely comprehensive and broad in scope, much like the PACK EXPO events held in the U.S.,” notes Martinez. “We’re also pleased to have several new programs and groups involved in the show.”

New to the show this year will be the AMEE Awards Pavilion, a Guatemalan Pavilion and a Brazilian Plastic Transformers Pavilion. The show will also feature pavilions from the USA, Canada, Germany, Spain, France, Argentina, China and more.

The show is already 89 percent sold, but space is available to any packaging or processing supplier interested in growing their market share in this dynamic market.
