Paper Machinery Corporation Announces Barrier One: Unprecedented Barrier Protection in Paperboard Packaging

Thursday, December 05, 2002

Paper Machinery Corporation, the global leader in the design and manufacturing of paper cup and paperboard container machines, today announced its new Barrier One packaging that offers unparalleled product protection from a paperboard canister.

Barrier One offers a convenient, round or customizable container that features barrier protection based on metallized polypropylene with patented seal coating to achieve standard product barrier needs. PMC has developed a gas fired, hot air system to complement its standard electronic hot air system, producing top temperatures of 2000°F to handle the sealing of the metallized polypropylene, ensuring seal quality. The Barrier One also features a built-in zip strip, providing an easy to open, tamper-evident closure.

“Product is loaded through the bottom and the composite closure is induction sealed, making post fill closing simple and reliable. This also preserves package integrity and product freshness,” stated Jerry Meier, vice president of PMC. The unique closure system makes the Barrier One package an effective option for converters as well as in-line manufacturers.

The Barrier One packages are appropriate for products requiring MVTR protection and the base material can be SBS, recycled or kraft paperboard. This offers the customer a variety of product packaging options to meet their specific needs.

PMC provides efficient, dependable machinery for forming Barrier One packaging. Container forming can be done at speeds from 100 – 200 cups per minute, depending on the machine model and size of the canister. Control functions on PMC machines are cam driven for accurate, repeatable production. Efficient in-line production is satisfied by the inclusion of a cycle stop function that clears the machine of materials during stoppage and an index function that automatically starts the machine based upon downstream demands. PMC has a solid history of success with in-line systems.

Paper Machinery Corporation will introduce the new Barrier One package at Pack Expo 2002 in Chicago from November 3-7. Samples of the new package and product literature will be featured at PMC’s booth number S-1260.
