BARRIER PLUS PACKAGING BREAKS INTO NEW MARKETS

Milwaukee, WI, November 7, 2008 – Barrier Plus™, the revolutionary packaging technology created by Paper Machinery Corporation, continues to turn heads with new applications.
    Introduced in 2004, Barrier Plus was first utilized to form preprinted, two-piece convolute plastic pots for flowers and plants. Paper Machinery Corporation won a World Star award that year for development of the container and machinery.
    Since then, expansion of Barrier Plus has focused on traditional cup and container markets—but with a twist. Emphasis on the promotional segments of the cup and container markets has been especially successful. Two customers of Paper Machinery Corporation—Visstun Inc. of Las Vegas, Nev., and Westgate Products of Deerfield, Ill.—understand this market niche particularly well.
    Visstun employs several PMC 1250 machines in conjunction with two narrow sheet-fed Heidelberg litho presses. They routinely keep sheets of polypropylene in inventory and specify minimal order quantities of 250 pieces. With ready artwork, Visstun ships printed cups within a week.
    Concentrating on the advertising specialty business, Visstun commonly prints and forms cups for football team or hotel promotions. But major corporations like Seagrams and Coca-Cola have learned of Visstun's quality and quick turn-around times and are placing orders themselves. They rave about the outstanding graphics and durability of the cups, which are designed to be long-lasting souvenirs.
    Westgate Products markets tubs, and promotional use is high on the list of reasons to buy. The tubs have been integral to campaigns for movies like "Pirates of the Caribbean," as well as sports team promotions. Their high quality imparts keepsake value. In fact, a member of the maintenance staff for the Green Bay Packers recently remarked that there were no tubs to sweep up and discard after a game. The fans had taken them home as souvenirs. Available in four sizes from 50 oz. to 130 oz., tubs from Westgate have also been used by numerous food companies.
    Westgate and Visstun both cite print quality as a main reason for the success of their containers in promotional applications. Printing on plastic surpasses what can be achieved on paperboard because of brightness and whiteness. Furthermore, ink isn't absorbed into the surface and a UV coating is added to protect it.
    Like other customers that specify Barrier Plus, Visstun and Westgate easily outdistance printing done on thermoformed or injection-molded plastic options. In addition, their results are superior to inmold labeling, which requires considerable capital costs and thicker plastic than Barrier Plus.
