NORDSON FILLMASTER™ AUTOMATED FEED SYSTEM IMPROVES

DULUTH, Georgia – September 19, 2002 – The new Fillmaster automated fill system from Nordson Corporation (Nasdaq –NDSN) automatically refills adhesive melters, relieving operators from frequent tank filling and helping maintain adhesive thermal characteristics for proper bonding. The Fillmaster system consists of a 69-liter (44 kg or 97 lb.) holding tank, a venturi pump, flexible hose and capacitive sensor. When a low-level signal is detected in the adhesive melter, the Fillmaster system coveys adhesive by air to the melter tank until a sufficient quantity has been transferred. Regular addition of adhesive eliminates the potential for the adhesive melter to run dry, reducing interruptions in production and product rejects due to inadequate bonding. The Fillmaster system will replenish the adhesive melter only when the tank is at operating temperature, air supply is available and no alarm condition is detected. Cycle times for filling duration and interval are adjustable using a timed relay, allowing users to ensure that only small quantities of adhesive refresh the tank on a regular basis. An accumlator provides constant air volume for each filling cycle, providing consistent adhesive delivery. Automatic filling reduces thermal shock and poor bonds caused by applying adhesive at incorrect temperatures. The system also reduces the waste and expense associated with spilled adhesive. The Fillmaster I system feeds one adhesive melter while the Fillmaster II system feeds two adhesive melters. The systems accept adhesive in pellet, granule, and pastille forms. Adhesive can be conveyed at a rate of up to 100 kg/hr (220 lbs/hr) at a distance of up to 10 meters (33 ft) A unique air flow design and inverted cone filter help to keep adhesive cool and prevent bridging. The system can be retrofitted to existing Nordson Series 3400, 3500 and 3700 Multiscan® and Vista ™ adhesive melters.
