Rolco's Serpentine Accumulators Create Significant Production Efficiencies

At Pack Expo - Las Vegas, Rolco International (a division of Nercon Eng. & Mfg., Inc.) will be demonstrating their FIFO (First-In, First-Out) Serpentine Accumulator. The Rolco Serpentine Accumulator allows product to be received at any rate and can be discharged at the same or at a different rate. Nearly 500 units are in operation, accumulating products ranging from circuit breakers and beer cases to pudding cartons and cheese spreads.

In normal operation, product is delivered to the accumulator infeed, transferred into a product carrier, progressed through the system and discharged back into the production line, as required by the downstream equipment. If the downstream machine is not ready to accept product, the accumulator discharge does not operate, but the infeed continues to operate, storing all of the production within the accumulator. The unislide continues to descend as the accumulator gets filled. As soon as the downstream equipment is ready to accept product the discharge operates at a faster rate than the infeed, gradually removing all of the accumulated product and getting back to one for one again with the upstream equipment.
