Retrofit Kit:

Changing Roller Conveyors over to Plastic Belt Conveyors
Saves Down-Time and Increases Reliability

(Oshkosh, WI) Many companies have a significant investment in roller conveyors, and continue to experience rollers dropping out of frames, dead zones, case skewing and jamming. These problems are non-existent on plastic belt case conveyors.  But, complete replacement of a conveyor system can cause a line to be down for a long period of time.

That’s why Nercon Eng. & Mfg., Inc. and Intralox ® have developed a “Retrofit Kit” to convert roller conveyors over to Plastic Belt Case Conveyors. The easy-to-install retrofit option allows the conveyor system to be up and running in much less time than installing a new system. In many cases, the retrofitting can be accomplished in segments during smaller time frames.

 

Another benefit of retrofitting an existing roller conveyor system is the benefit of Intralox’s® plastic belt that replaces the rollers. Plastic belting is a safer, lower maintenance conveying option that offers better product control.

 

Retrofitting an existing conveyor, rather than replacing it, is usually less expensive. While the kit requires an investment in components (belt, drives, shafts, sprockets and wearstrips), the reduced down-time and lower installation costs (mechanical and electrical) brings down the over-all cost of the project, especially on overhead conveyor systems.  According to an Intralox® study, one manufacturer saved over 50% in overall cost on their case conveying line.

 

At Pack Expo – Las Vegas (Booth #3012), Nercon will have a Retrofit equipment display showing an existing roller conveyor system converted to a Plastic Belt system, using all the components including in the easy-to-install kit.

 

What Components are in the Kit?

     “Drop-In” Drive Assembly and “Drop-In” Idler Assembly components, including shaft, bearings and sprockets, are fast and easy to install.

     Snap-On Carryway Wearstrips utilize clips that are designed to attach onto existing rollers to keep the wearstrips in place.

     A serpentine belt return used in conjunction with catenary return shoes, replaces the roller return. This eliminates turning rollers from the system completely. The belt will run smoother and quieter, and has a much cleaner appearance since the chain is then tucked up into the frame. The belt will run above existing support hangers or conduit which might otherwise be in the path of a roller return.

     Motor mounts can be provided in several different designs, including shaft mount or below mounts with either roller chain or timing belt transmission. These mounts can be custom made to accommodate customer’s specified components.

     Motors and reducers will be determined based on the overall layout of the conveyor line.

Nercon also offers a standard line of new modular case conveyor sections. These can be used in conjunction with a retrofit system for areas that might be more cost effective to replace. Conveyor sections include brake and meter belts, curves, spurs, inclines and declines. Nercon’s engineering support and custom fabricating capabilities allow us to provide special components, to give customers a single source for all retrofit needs.
