ZIP-PAK Launches New Product Line For Polypropylene Packaging

Tuesday, October 14, 2003

Packagers can now add the brand-building benefits of resealability to almost any style of polypropylene (PP) packaging with a new extended line of polypropylene-compatible zippers from Zip-Pak.

Traditionally, zippers have been created from low-density polyethylene (LDPE), which does not adhere well to PP packaging. Zip-Pak’s new technology combines the LDPE with a proprietary sealant material that makes it compatible with polypropylene and allows it to adhere to most PP films to form bags and pouches.

Zip-Pak introduced a polypropylene-compatible webless zipper last year and has now extended that feature to its flanged zipper and zipper tape product lines. The new products can be used in both form/fill/seal and pre-made pouch applications to produce resealable packaging for almost any package style using polypropylene film. One of Zip-Pak’s newest developments allows zipper to be applied in the transverse, or cross-web, direction on a horizontal overwrap machine, making it easy and economical to apply to packaging for cookies, health and beauty aids and many other products. Brand owners can choose standard high-performance press-to-close zippers or the wider EZ-Align™ zipper, which provides extra ease of closing to meet the special needs of consumer groups like seniors and children.

“Our new polypropylene-compatible zipper products enhance the value of polypropylene packaging and help drive brand sales,” said Robert Hogan, Director of Sales and Marketing at Zip-Pak. “Packages using polypropylene films have historically had limited options available for adding a resealable feature. Our new line of products opens up a variety of new markets to resealable packaging.”

Packagers of resealable LDPE bags can run resealable PP bags without purchasing new equipment. Or, if adding resealability for the first time, packagers can easily either retrofit or purchase new machinery, depending on operational needs.

With its more than 200 patented zipper profiles, Zip-Pak is a global leader for resealable packaging technology. World headquarters are located in Manteno, IL. Zip-Pak is an Illinois Tool Works (ITW) Company.
