Zip-Pak announces the global launch of its In-Line and RD applicators for resealable cheese packaging – now available for small flange (1/2”) zippers. The applicators, manufactured by Zip-Pak’s AMI Equipment Division in Duluth, Georgia, apply the zipper in the machine direction and easily retrofit onto existing horizontal flow-wrapping machinery. Packagers can now productively combine both applicator and zipper to offer the more convenient packaging that consumers increasingly demand.

“For products like cheese, packaging is a brand differentiator,” said Robert Hogan, Director of Sales and Marketing at Zip-Pak. “With families typically opening and closing cheese packages several times throughout use, zippers can enhance freshness while make packages easier to open and reseal. Zip-Pak’s new applicators will further drive packaging companies’ adoption of resealable packaging by simplifying production of flow-wrapped products like cheese.”

AMI’s RD applicator fits onto the side of horizontal flow-wrapping machinery while the In-Line applicator fits under the infeed conveyer. These features allowing packagers to save critical and expensive production space. Both applicators can apply a small flange zipper onto packages of cheese, produce, and baked goods.

The small flange zipper is available with Surlyn® and polypropylene compatible sealants to enable easier sealing of the zipper to various types of films, and minimize film distortion during zipper application. Consumer benefits include greater stability of the zipper with constant opening force, and flanges that provide an easy opening feature. The higher zipper profile also assures a more secure closure to protect product freshness.
