First Thermoform Application For ZIP-PAK's SLIDER™ Technology

Wednesday, October 29, 2003

Zip-Pak, the world leader in resealable packaging, announces the first thermoform application for the ZIP-PAK® SLIDER™ Zipper. PLUMROSE USA, one of the largest producers of premium sliced meats and deli hams, has added the economical, high-performance slider to packaging for its 8 oz. line of Danola Supreme Deli Classic meats.

“Our line of high quality, thinly sliced, uniquely-flavored meats is geared toward the choosiest consumers,” said Don Meyer, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for PLUMROSE USA. “Adding resealability extends the quality and freshness of our products, and the sliding feature provides a new level of convenience.”

The ZIP-PAK® SLIDER™ zipper allows consumers to reseal the package after removing a few slices of the meat. The remaining slices can be kept fresh without transferring the product to another package.

The slider mechanism (or “clip”) slides smoothly across the zipper tracks to ensure easy opening and closing. Compared to traditional press-to-close zippers, the improved usability of the slider makes resealable bags and pouches even easier for seniors and children to use.

Until recently, adding slider technology to thermoform packaging required extensive equipment overhauls –often time consuming and cost prohibitive. Now, converters and brand owners can implement sliders quickly and easily. The ZIP-PAK® SLIDER™ is designed to work with existing thermoform/fill/seal machinery, requiring no significant downtime or a large up-front investment.

“As the demand for larger sizes grows, packaging that allows products to stay fresh throughout multiple servings is essential,” explained Robert Hogan, Director of Sales and Marketing for Zip-Pak. “The ZIP-PAK® SLIDER™ now provides this user-friendly option for meats, cheeses, personal care products and other thermoform applications.”

With its more than 200 patented zipper profiles, Zip-Pak is a worldwide leader for resealable packaging technology. World headquarters are located in Manteno, IL. Zip-Pak is an Illinois Tool Works (ITW) Company.
