EDL's renowned Double Tight Wrap system has now been adapted to applications other than the bagged product that led to the development of the concept in the early 1990s. Double Tight Wrap is a method of bundling product using two webs of light-gage Low Density Polyethylene film at right angles to each other. The concept was originally develop-ed to meet the needs of producers of bagged product, such as Pet Food, that was subject to moving around in a bundle. The bands of Low Density Polyethylene film are applied around the product and sealed under tension. The result is a tightly contained bundle that will hold its shape. A secondary advantage of the Double Tight Wrap concept for bagged product was that it provides total enclosure because of the overlapping bands of film. When a packaging challenge presented to EDL called for a large corrugated container medical kits to be totally enclosed in Low Density Polyethylene film, the Double Wrap concept proved to be the most cost effective method available. The particular application also required the system to handle corrugated containers varying in size by 90% at random with no changeover! Double Wrap proved a perfect solution as it provides a double layer of film on the top, bottom and all 8 corners of the container, where it is needed most. The large panels of the sides, front and back of the container have a single layer of film which results in a 28% overall film saving when compared to traditional Shrink Wrapping. Double Wrap is suitable for any product that requires total enclosure but is particularly well suited to any application where the product is larger than 10" high. Double Wrap is also particularly well suited to any application that calls for random sized product with no changeover.
