This is a manually fed, semi-automated system that combines and processes the output of either or both the SSI-20V (title sheet insertion) and the DVD Pac Plus (title sheet, disc, booklet). These machines require that the open album be manually introduced to the machine at which point the machine performs the insertion and ejects the loaded album onto the conveyor. Optional Album Dispense/Open devices located at each inserter provide a pre-opened album on demand and can further increase the throughput of each inserting station.

Once on the conveyor, the loaded albums are transported to a section of the conveyor that allows staff to perform inspection and additional operations (such as second booklet, coupon, etc). The still open packages then flow into the “Tag and Close” module where either an Acousto-magnetic (Sensormatic) or RF (Checkpoint) tag can be applied. The album is automatically closed and passed to down stream processes such as edge labeling and over wrapping. This Tag and Close module can process the combined output of multiple inserters up to 90 parts per minute.

What Makes This System Flexible?

· Expandability: DVD packaging can start with as little as one DVD Pac Plus workstation as a stand-alone operation. As packaging volumes grow more workstations can be added in stand-alone configurations and eventually organized along the conveyor.

· Moveable Components: For larger order quantities, all workstations can be assigned to the System but a DVD Pac Plus can be moved away from the system to handle a smaller, individual order.

· Expandable Output: With other automation, if a 40 part per minute machine is purchased, its throughput cannot be increased at a later time. The throughput of this system can range from 18~20 parts per minute up to 90 parts per minute.

· Secondary Operations: This system allows access to the package at many points in the process. Fully automated systems can have difficulty handling package content variations.
