SCA Consumer Packaging, maker of the Alloyd brand of heat sealing and packaging machines, will showcase its patented ATEX™ (Automatic Tool Exchange) system on the ergonomically designed AERGO 2 Plus in booth 4617 at East Pack 2006.

SCA developed the ATEX system in response to Formalized Risk Assessment studies, which indicated that the manual heat plate changeover exchange process is the riskiest (most likely to cause injuries) of all the processes involved in running heat sealing equipment. With ATEX, SCA offers the industry a means to address the problem while simultaneously increasing productivity.

The ATEX system uses a combination of transfer trays and automatic locking/unlocking mechanisms to make the entire process both safer and more operator-friendly. With a manual system, an operator had to balance a 12-15 pound, 500°F heat plate with one gloved hand while releasing mechanical levers with the other. Now all the operator has to do is push the load/unload button to activate the heat plate transfer process. The connection attained is positive and the alignment is perfect. In addition, the heat distribution from the platen to the plate is uniform, ensuring an even, higher quality seal.

Visitors at SCA’s booth can see the ATEX perform on the AERGO 2 Plus Tray Sealing Machine, which combines simplicity, functionality and ease-of-use with advanced ergonomic design. Ergonomic enhancements include an optimized product load table height (40”), shorter shuttle travel distance, operator footrest, and optional anti-fatigue mats. All of these enhancements can help increase worker productivity, decrease sick days and minimize workman’s comp issues.

In addition to these equipment enhancements, SCA will display two packaging innovations. The new line of Custom High-Vis Retail Paks is specifically designed to help the customers achieve their secondary packaging goals. Featured lines include: Security Pak, Promo Pak, Try-Me Pak, Club Pak and Brand Pak.

Show visitors also can see the marketing benefits of PaperFoam®, a uniquely versatile packaging material that offers unlimited design possibilities to maximize shelf-appeal and build brand identity. Further, this revolutionary new material is comprised entirely of renewable resources and is completely recyclable.
